When it comes to preparing your kid for success in our dance classes, consider these four factors!
1) Dress The Part
One of the ways that you can help prepare your child for dance class is by dressing them in clothes that are appropriate for dancing. This means usually avoiding baggy pants, jeans, and shirts with large logos or illustrations. Clothing should be comfortable and movable, and suitable for the dance style they are participating in. It’s a good idea to avoid tight-fitting clothing as well. It’s also a good idea to make sure that your child’s hair is pulled back and out of their face, so they can focus on their dancing.
Other general attire guidelines:
- Avoid pantyhose in favor of dance tights, as dance tights are less restrictive and more comfortable.
- Shoes with hard soles are not allowed at Fancy Feet Dance Studio, as they can leave marks on the floor and are also more difficult to maneuver in.
We also recommend you bring:
- Plenty of water
- An extra scrunchie or ribbon for dancers with long hair
- A towel or two
- An extra set of dance clothes
- A healthy snack
- Extra dance shoes
2) Stay Positive & Enjoy the Moment
One of the most important things you can do to help prepare your child for dance class is to stay positive and enjoy the moment. It’s important that they see their parents being supportive and enjoying themselves, as this will help set a positive tone for their own experience. Dance classes are supposed to be fun – if your child isn’t having a good time, it’s probably not the right activity for them.
Dance is one of the most positive activities a child can participate in. At Fancy Feet, we believe that children learn best through exploration and creativity in a happy environment.
3) Meet The Dance Teacher(s)
One of the best things you can do to help prepare your child for dance class is to meet their dance teacher. This will give you a chance to ask any questions that you have about the class, and also allow the teacher to get to know your child. It’s important for the teacher to be able to develop a relationship with each student in order to help them achieve their full potential.
If you’re enrolling your child in a dance class for the first time, it’s also important to attend the first class with them. This will give you a chance to see what the class is like and how your child interacts with the other students and teacher.
4) Choose a Suitable Dance Style
Choose a suitable dance style for their age, interests, and skill level. Not every child is interested in or suited for the same dance style. At Fancy Feet, we offer classes in jazz dance, tap dance, ballet, and more. We strive to provide each student with the opportunity to explore a variety of dance styles and find the one that’s right for them.
